From 6th August until mid-September 2018
As part of the ongoing works to replace two large gas mains for the Tideway Blackfriars project, contractors will be carrying out excavations on the Victoria Embankment at the Blackfriars Underpass for a period of around 6 weeks. The contractors will need to close the Victoria Embankment from 6th August until mid-September for westbound traffic from Southwark Bridge to allow sufficient space for the excavations. They expect that roads in the surrounding area will be extremely busy and advise that access to locations around the Victoria Embankment are likely to be quicker and easier by walking, cycling or by the tube or river services. The result of these works will provide additional information so that contractors can assess what further work is required. This could require a full closure of the Victoria Embankment for up to six months from April 2019 however they will know more following these initial works and will keep us updated. As the Victoria Embankment will be closed to all westbound vehicular traffic from Monday 6th August it will be necessary to divert our AM services. We will continue to serve all stops between Canary Wharf and Cannon Street Railway Station as normal and will also introduce a drop off at Blackfriars prior to diverting via Blackfriars Bridge to serve alternative bus stops on the south side of the River Thames. The alternative bus stops being served are as follows: (please click the bus stop name to view its location in Google Maps) Blackfriars (stop B) Waterloo Road (stop L) York Road (stop G) Lambeth Palace Road (stop SA) Whilst following this diversion services will be unable to serve our AM stops located at H.M.S President, Temple Station, Banqueting House, Westminster Abbey and Vauxhall Bridge Road. Please note the Victoria Embankment closure is westbound so will impact AM services only. Our PM services will continue to serve all stops listed within our published timetables as normal.
We will confirm a return to our normal AM route once notice has been received from TfL.
